SELF-Reflection of cohort
In alignment with the goals of the PROMISE program, the 2016 Cohort participated with weekly professional development sessions throughout our 10-week internship that focused on areas of career development, personal branding and marketing, networking and workplace accountability. These invaluable sessions gave us not only the opportunity to develop professionally and personally not only within our individual work-sites, but together as a cohort.
One of the strengths of the PROMISE program is its unique cohort system, which provides interns an opportunity to do the transitional work of moving into professional spaces and 40 hour/week jobs while providing a structured, community-centered framework that we can utilize as a resource while doing so. During my PROMISE 2016 experience, one of the most beneficial experiences I have had was within our intra-cohort "Pod" groups: we had an opportunity for break-out sessions with other interns and a facilitator that gave us a chance to share our work-site experiences, concerns or any issues we had within the program. The chance to share my experiences at my work-site with peers and hear their stories was incredibly validating, and made me feel more connected to the program and cohort as a whole.
